How does the epic poem "The Iliad" compare to the epic poem of "Beowulf"?and also explain to the characteristics of epics.

An epic is a poem or story which shows the adventures and deeds of heroes. It often also shows how the hero's actions affected the world at large, how the world became as it was from the hero's deeds. In the Iliad, Achilles is known as a great warrior, and he defeats his main opponent, the Trojan Hector. Beowulf's exploits include defeating Grendel and his mother. Both portray a heroic ideal and set forth the values of the importance of acting honorably over more petty concerns such as gaining treasure.
