Calculate the magnitude of the linear momentum for each of the following casesa.) a proton with mass 1.67 ×10−27 kg moving with a velocity of 6...

Momentum  of body  is defined as the product of its mass and its velocity. So,if the mass of the body is in units of  Kg, and its velocity is in meters per second or m/s, then the momentum is in units of kg m/s.

a)

Proton's momentum = proton's mass * its velocity .

=1.67*10^(-27)kg* (6*10^6)m/s= 10.02*10^(-27+6) = 10.02*10^-21 N

=1.002*10^-20 Kg m/s

b)

The bullets momentum = its mass in gram * its velocity in m/s

=1.6gram*374 m/s  towards right.

=0.0016 kg*374 m/s

=0.5984 Kg m/s towards right.

c)

The momentum of the sprinter= sprinter's mass in kg* its velocity in m/s

= 8kg* 11.8 m/s

=94.4kg m/s

d)

The  earth's momentum = the earth's mass in kg* earth's velocity in m/s

=(5.98*10^24 kg)*(29700m/s)

=1.77606*10^27 kg m/s
