Explain how the symbols in the book create the tale?Golding uses many symbols in Lord of the Files. Pick three of them and explain how he uses them...

In "The Lord of the Flies" there are several symbols that are very specific.  The first symbol is Simon.  Simon is Christ like.  He goes off to meditate.  He is loving and good to the little children.  He spends time alone and is a deep thinker.  He is also the one who is sacrificed after the boys go into a frenzy doing their ritual dance.  When his body is washed out to sea, it has a glow to it.

“Softly surrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simon’s dead body moved out towards open sea.”(154)

The Conch is a symbol.  It represents the civilized world that has been left behind.  Piggy tries to use it to establish rules and order.  They are things that are left behind.

The Boar's head on the stick is another symbol.  It represents the breaking away from the religions and belief's that the boys once had to a darker side.  They have stepped into their savage side.  The Lord of the flies represents the emerging of the beast within the boys.

The three symbols fit together to create the tale because the story is about good versus evil and how evil emerges within the boys once their civilized value system falls away.
