My question is: 4x+6=-10 I thought that when you transfer all you x"s to one side, you change sighns, and then if there was 2 negatives on the...

4x + 6= -10

In order to solve you need to isolate x,

4x + 6 = -10

4x + 6 - 6 = -10 - 6         (subtract 6 from both sides)

[(-10-6) two same signs result in addition and the sign of the bigger number is taken, two different signs result in subtraction and the sign of the bigger number is taken]

4x = -16

4x/4 = -16/4                   (divide both sides by 4)

[In multiplication or division when you change sides the sign remains the same as shown above]

x = -4 Answer.

When multiplying or dividing signs are also multiplied such that, + * - = -

                                                                                            + * + = +

                                                                                             - * - = +

                                                                                             - * + = -

i.e. different signs when multiplied become negative, same signs when multiplied become positive.
